Silicone vs TPU Remote Cases: Which Is Better?
When sourcing protective TV remote covers, the two common materials are silicone and TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane). Both protect the remote — but they feel and perform differently. Here is the practical comparison.
Side-by-side
| Factor | Silicone | TPU |
|---|---|---|
| Feel | Soft, matte, grippy | Firmer, slightly glossy |
| Drop protection | Excellent shock absorption | Good, more rigid |
| Washable | Yes, odorless | Yes, but can attract oils |
| Color options | Any Pantone, glow, translucent | Mostly solid colors |
| Eco / safety | Food-grade (LFGB/FDA) available | Recyclable but less "skin-safe" |
| Price | Slightly lower in bulk | Similar |
Which should you choose?
For TV remotes in homes, food-grade silicone is usually the better pick: it's softer and grippier (less likely to slip), washable, safe around kids and pets, and easily made in glow or translucent styles that sell well at retail. TPU wins when you want a thin, form-fitting "hard case" look and don't need glow or soft-touch feel.
Our recommendation
Most of our importers choose silicone remote covers for the consumer market and reserve TPU for premium, slim-fit lines. If you're unsure, order samples of both — we can supply either, including custom OEM in your color and logo.
